FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
General
Where is Leigh Art located?
Leigh Art is a small Texas studio creating handmade pottery, jewelry, artwork, and home goods inspired by everyday rituals and the beauty of slow living.
Are all of your products handmade?
Most Leigh Art products are handmade in my Texas studio. Product descriptions will note if an item is handmade, one of a kind, or part of a small-batch collection.
Do you have a physical storefront?
At this time, Leigh Art is an online shop only.
Pottery
I've never purchased handmade pottery before. What should I expect?
Handmade pottery is beautifully imperfect.
Unlike factory-made products, each piece is shaped, glazed, and finished by hand. You may notice slight variations in glaze, color, shape, thickness, texture, or small marks left by the making process. These details are not defects—they're evidence that your piece was made by a real person, not a machine.
No two pieces are ever exactly alike, and that's part of what makes handmade pottery so special. The fingerprints of the process, the subtle differences, and the individuality of each piece are what give handmade work its warmth and character.
If you're accustomed to mass-produced dinnerware, handmade pottery may feel different—and we think that's a good thing.
Is your pottery dishwasher-safe?
Most pottery is dishwasher safe unless otherwise noted in the product description.
Is your pottery microwave-safe?
Most pottery is microwave-safe unless otherwise stated on the product listing.
Can your pottery be used on the stovetop?
No. Leigh Art pottery is not intended for stovetop use.
Can your pottery go in the oven?
Many Leigh Art pottery pieces can be used in the oven. However, handmade ceramics should never be subjected to sudden temperature changes.
If using pottery in the oven:
- Place the piece in a cool oven and allow it to heat gradually with the oven.
- Avoid transferring pottery directly from the refrigerator or freezer into a hot oven.
- Do not place hot pottery onto cold surfaces.
- Avoid exposing pottery to direct stovetop heat, broilers, grills, or open flames.
Because each handmade piece is unique, customers use handmade pottery in the oven at their own discretion and should always avoid thermal shock.
Why doesn't my piece look exactly like the photo?
Because each piece is handmade, slight variations in glaze, color, shape, and texture are to be expected. These differences are part of what makes handmade pottery special.
What is crazing?
Crazing refers to the fine crackle pattern that can develop in certain glazes. On pieces where crazing is present, it is an intentional characteristic of the glaze and not considered damage.
What are Studio Seconds?
Studio Seconds are functional pieces with cosmetic imperfections that do not meet my usual standards for first-quality work. These items are sold at a discount, and all Studio Seconds sales are final.
One-of-a-Kind & Limited Collections
Will you remake a one-of-a-kind piece if it sells?
No. One-of-a-kind pieces are exactly that—once they're gone, they're gone.
Will you restock sold-out items?
Some collections are restocked periodically, while others are seasonal or limited. Product descriptions will note if an item is made to order or limited in availability.
Why do some pieces vary so much from one another?
Handmade work and kiln firings naturally produce variation. Some collections embrace this individuality more than others.
Made-to-Order Items
How long will my order take to ship?
Ready-to-ship items typically ship within a few business days. Made-to-order pieces may require additional production time.
Why do some collections take longer?
Because many pieces are created in larger batches or made to order, fulfillment timelines vary. Estimated production times are noted on individual product listings.
How long do sets and packs take?
Many pottery sets and packs are made to order. Please allow up to 8 weeks for fulfillment unless otherwise noted.
Jewelry
Are your earrings heavy?
Since Leigh Art earrings are handcrafted from ceramic, their weight varies by design. Studs are generally very lightweight, while dangle earrings may range from delicate to more substantial depending on their size and style.
What are your earrings made from?
Leigh Art earrings feature handcrafted ceramic elements paired with jewelry findings selected for durability and wearability.
Will my earrings look exactly like the photos?
Because many earrings are handmade, slight variations may occur and are part of their unique charm.
Lanterns & Home Décor
Can I use my lantern or chiminea with a candle?
Some Leigh Art lanterns and chimineas are designed to accommodate standard tea lights and will be identified as such in their product descriptions. Decorative pieces marked "Decor Only" are not intended for use with candles, open flame, burners, or any heat source.
Please follow the intended use outlined in each product listing.
Are Leigh Art products safe for open flame?
Only products specifically described as suitable for tea light use should be used with a candle. Leigh Art products are not intended for use on stovetops, grills, campfires, fireplaces, or other direct heat sources unless expressly stated otherwise.
Customers assume all responsibility for the use and care of their purchases. Leigh Art is not liable for injury, property damage, product failure, or other losses resulting from misuse, modification, improper handling, or use inconsistent with the product's intended purpose.
